The Stories We Tell Ourselves

The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves become the stories of who we are.

The stories we tell ourselves about ourselves are the neurological seeds of what we become. Nurtured by our repeating these stories to ourselves countless times, the seeds sprout and grow according to the plot lines we’ve decided are true.

The stories we tell ourselves collectively become the story of our society, and our society then interacts with other societies according to the plot lines we’ve decided are true: hence the state of our nation in the world today.

I’ve started telling myself new stories to replace the old stories I’ve told myself about myself for much of my life. The results so far are good. Even my digestion has improved.

If we tell ourselves stories that say real change takes a long time, then real change will take a long time. But what if we tell ourselves stories in which real change takes place the moment we start telling ourselves stories in which real change happens surprisingly fast?
